When making the decision to delve into the world of IVF, you need to decide between going private or government. Having not yet embarked upon this path, how do you know which to choose? The overall process is the same but within this process; there are a few fundamental differences. It can be seen as a trade… what can you deal with physically vs what you can afford. Both will help you in your aim of achieving a baby, but where the one is expensive, the other allows for more woman who are battling to conceive a chance at IVF.
The greatest difference would be the financial aspect.Going the State route is far cheaper! And stripped of all frills. You need to consider that you may need to undergo the treatment more than once. Even if you are doing it through the Government, a highly qualified and successful Gynaecologist & Obstetrician will treat you.The second greatest difference between the two is the comfort levels. Where a private clinic will have an anaesthetist to let you sleep during egg retrieval, the government will use conscious sedation so that the anaesthetist and theatre costs are stripped away.
With the clinic, you wake up in a crisp white bed and receive a cup of tea and a sandwich.Other differences between Government and Private IVF include staffing, medication, facilities, anaesthesia, and theatre time.A great article from 2015 explains the government route in further detail. At the end of the day, your decision does not need to be absolute as you are able to move from a state treatment to a private one and vice-versa.You want to achieve the goal of a baby and this is a process. These people are here to help you so you will be in great hands either way.
